We at Shishukunj believe in working towards sustainability and keeping our footprint on the earth small. The buildings, made using rocks procured within a 50km radius, arranged in random rubble fashion, allows us to manage without air conditioning even at the peak of summer when temperatures climb above 40 degrees.
Greening the Campus
Growing a Sustainable Future Together
We have made conscious efforts at greening the campus, and children have been part of the afforestation programme. We are slowly working towards getting all the vegetables for our consumption from our organic farm on the campus and children are also involved in growing vegetables and grains.
Water Conservation
Harvesting Rainwater & Recycling Grey Water
We have created percolation tanks to capture the rainwater. We are also recycling the grey water in the campus through a dewatts plant. We also have rainwater harvesting tanks that collect the water from the roofs.
Reduce and Reuse – Being Nature Friendly
We have reduced the use of plastic within the campus finding alternatives whenever we see plastic entering the campus; this was taken as part of the ecobuddy club which did an audit on plastics. The ecobuddy club reused plastic bottles to make a sitting area. We are also in the process of replacing the chemical cleaners with natural cleaners in the campus with the help of students.
Children have been given opportunities to understand how eco friendly buildings can be made from mud and wattle.
